It was the summer of 2013 and United were on the hunt for creative forces to aid their ageing squad.
Amidst the back and forth transfer rumours of that time the fact that Manchester United biggest concern was their midfield was not lost on anybody.
Despite dominating EPL scenes season in season out, their midfield remained one big bag of big concern and was mostly at fault each time they faltered. The double Champions League final losses to Barcelona had more to do with their mid-spine.
In breaking the bank and having Anders Herrera and MarouaneFellaini, plus Michael Carrick still hanging around, United can be said to have finally fixed an overdue bug and with that everyone’s clamour has been laid to bed.
Still, United this season managed to finish 24 points behind champions Chelsea and 7 off the Champions League spots, leaving them hanging on Wednesday’s Europa League thread as their last resort to the UCL route. And that’s plain shameful. Continue reading UNITED BADLY NEED JAMES RODRIGUEZ
In order to not get behind the likes of Chelsea and the rest of the top clubs in the English Premier League, Pep Guardiola has stated that he wants and has to be active in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Pep Guardiola is confident that all of the title contenders of the top tier English League will be very active when the transfer window re-opens on July 1st
and this is going to force him on having to reinforce his squad as well.
‘’We speak every day about what we do to improve the quality of the players we have, and will have in the future. What we can do get better and, of course, buy some players to help us to be stronger’’
“But all the teams are going to think about that. Even Chelsea is going to buy players. It will make an exceptional Premier League so every club is going to try to improve. I remember Sir Alex Ferguson would win titles and titles but every season would change players. You have to do that.” Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola said. Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero has put the club’s 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park behind him as he and his girlfriend, Karina Tajeda went their four-year wedding anniversary celebration.
The Argentina international striker posted a picture on Instagram
with the caption: ‘Four years with you! I love you.’
Tajeda may just be the star’s girlfriend in England but she is just as famous as her footballing boyfriend in Argentina. As a major pop star in South America, together they form something very much like Posh and Becks.
Aguero met his famous partner at a concert shortly after his very public split from Giannina Maradona – daughter of footballing legend Diego and mother to his son Benjamin – and the have been inseparable since then. It had brought a bright end to an otherwise poor showing for the striker after he and his teammates were humiliated by Ronald Koeman’s men. While Pep continues with Man City, Louis van Gaal was replaced by Jose Mourinho this year. Mourinho and Pep are up for comparisons. If you check their statistics, Mourinho has been around for longer, having managed 6 times till now, though his success rate comparing the number of matches won is lower than that of Guardiola by 6%. It remains to be seen how both managers work their teams up to be more successful than the other this season
Among the different statistics for the City, around this time in 2010 David Silva had signed up for the City. If you look at the news of Premier League Sunderland will have David Moyes directing the team if Sam Allardyce is selected to manage England’s team. A few years ago when Sir. Alex Ferguson was in charge of Manchester United, the Premier League club had a free flowing playing style which allowed the players to perform in different ways and have freedom in the pitch but now under the guidance of Louis van Gaal, Rio Ferdinand believes that the team has experienced a huge change as they will not have the same freedom as they had some time ago.
Former player of Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand said: “Unfortunately, I think United fans need to be re-educated about what to expect now. Because it’s not going to be quick football, rampaging wingers, crosses flying into the box, thrills and yes, a few spills.
“If you go to watch them and are expecting that, you are going to be sadly disappointed. It’s all about possession football. Right now, United are well off what will be needed to be champions this season. Well off what I see in Manchester City.”
Ferdinand did not bash out or critique the system that Louis van Gaal is using but the former defender did state that the players will now be more limited as they don’t have any room for: ‘’free thinking’’
Rio Ferdinand worked alongside Sir. Alex Ferguson from 2002 until 2013 and the former defender of Manchester United is well aware of the playing style of the previous manager of the Premier League club and it simply will not be the same as the one that the Dutch coach has been implanting in the team.
When Ferdinand was asked about which Premier League club he believes has the best chances of winning the Champions League of this current season, Ferdinand replied by saying that from his own point of view it’s Manchester City.
