Pellegrini Wants To Avoid Surplus

The Chilean manager of Manchester City, Manuel Pellegrini wants to avoid having a surplus of players in his squad as he wants to keep his team compact and has told some of his players that they simply do not have any future in the Premier League club.

Pellegrini desires to keep his team with around 22 players and has advised Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair, John Guidetti and Matija Nastasic on searching around for another club as neither of them are in the plans of Pellegrini anytime soon.

The Serbian defender Matija Nastasic was signed by City 2 years ago as he went on making a remarkable debut season with the Premier League club but everything started falling apart for him ever since then as he was plagued with injuries which has kept him in the sidelines of the team as well as falling behind the starting lineup of Pellegrini.

Pellegrini unveiled details concerning some of his players during a press conference as he said: “Matija needs to play. We already have four centre-backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata, as well as four full-backs.  So we will see in the next few days what happens with Nastasic. He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play. We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija’’

“Sinclair and Guidetti are also important players, but we have three or four players extra and I don’t like to have so many in the squad. I think 22 players is enough and they are all players who have a lot of quality. It is good for them to play.” Pellegrini added on.

By cutting loose and releasing some of the players that don’t play an important role for Manuel Pellegrini in Manchester City, the wage bill of the team will be slashed down as well as keeping hold and extending the contracts of some of his key players such as: Nasri, Silva, Dzeko, Aguero and Kolarov.

Walcott Believes The Club Can Achieve More Trophies

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott says that the club can now go on and achieve more trophies in the future after they finally managed to end the trophy drought. Arsenal have not won a major trophy since the 2005 FA Cup victory, but they managed to overcome this monkey on the back with a 3-2 win over Hull City in this year’s final. Even before the final, winger Theo Walcott has been saying that the FA Cup could be very important for the club since it would open the doors for more trophies in the future.

Now that they have gone on and achieve this win, Walcott believes that he does not see a reason why Arsenal can fulfil the potential that they have showed for almost a decade. The trophy drought has led to many pundits and critics openly coming out in fierce criticism of Arsene Wenger, but he is now set to stay at the Emirates by signing a new three-year contract. Speaking after the FA Cup win, Walcott said that the club now has a platform to build upon. Now that the nine-year wait for the first trophy, which is indeed the case for several players of the Arsenal squad, has ended, he says that the club can build the future.

“We have got a platform. We know what we want to achieve now. We want to push on from this. This is such a massive club. We realise that from the support we have. We need so much more success than we have in the past. This is definitely the stepping stone that’s going to build us into an absolutely dominant Arsenal team, I’m pretty sure of that. [The wait] has ended now and we are going to continue to flourish I think,” said the Arsenal winger, who has been struggling with injury.
